Design a wayfinding and signage system for Arthshila Delhi Arts Space in Okhla that complements its architecture while guiding visitors through creative spaces.
The proposed wayfinding system is currently being implemented and used at Arthshila, New Delhi, improving visitor movement and spatial understanding.
Context
Arthshila Delhi Arts Space, an initiative of Takshila Educational Society, is a cultural platform for Indian contemporary art, hosting exhibitions, performances, and workshops across multiple floors. The complex spatial layout made navigation challenging for visitors, highlighting the need for a clear wayfinding system that simplifies movement while reflecting the artistic and immersive character of the space.
Design Approach
The design combines functionality with artistic expression through clear typography, material exploration, and visual cues. Fonts such as Monarky and Golden Ratio Demo ensure readability and brand alignment, while materials like corten steel, acrylic, and aluminium complement the building’s raw architecture. Inspired by phonetics and universal scripts, the system uses symbols, color coding, and strategic placement to guide visitors intuitively.
Outcome
A cohesive wayfinding system that improves visitor navigation across galleries, café spaces, and performance areas within Arthshila Delhi Arts Space. Through integrated typography, materials, and spatial planning, the signage enhances orientation while blending with the architectural and cultural environment, creating a functional yet visually engaging navigation experience.
